Stoke City and Huddersfield Town monitoring Celtic’s international winger

Sky Bet Championship sides Stoke City and Huddersfield Town are considering offering Celtic and Republic of Ireland winger Jonny Hayes a pre-contract in January, according to Stoke-On-Trent Live.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, although reports are suggesting that the Scottish Premier League champions are set to offer him a new deal to ward off interest from any other clubs.

Hayes joined the club back in 2017 from SPL side Aberdeen, but has failed to make the impact that everyone originally thought he would.

And at 32, he is heading towards the end of his career, and there are reports that he could be heading south of the border for that.

Stoke are expected to undergo a massive squad haul in January as new boss Michael O’Neil prepares for his first transfer window in charge of his club.

The same can be said for Huddersfield Town and Danny Cowley, who will use the January transfer window to stamp his mark on the squad that he inherited.

As well as Stoke and Huddersfield, Premier League side Burnley are also reported to be interested in signing Hayes.

The four time Republic of Ireland international made the move to Celtic in 2017 for £1 million. Since completing the switch, he has appeared 39 times in the league, scoring just two goals.

Hayes has played in England before, having come through the youth set-up at Sky Bet Championship side Reading. He also featured for former Premier League champions Leicester City back when they were a Football League side.
